DescriptionIt all started shortly after my birthday in early March this year. I saw the Heritage Auction preview, and a long-awaited page from Machine Man #4 had finally arrived. Confident, I placed my bid with two extra step bids, knowing I'd be on a flight when the auction ended. Upon landing, I eagerly checked the results… only to find out I lost! The page featured Machine Man battling Iron Man 2020, only to be struck from behind by Sunset, the story’s main antagonist. This is where Barry Windsor-Smith (BWS) showcased his iconic "electricals"—the intricate, detailed machinery that became his trademark. From Lady Death to Weapon X, BWS's signature details were on full display here. Then, fate gave me a second chance. It maybe that the original buyer didn’t pay, but the page resurfaced in previews in June, though it didn’t go to auction until September. Truth be told I had already acquired 2 other pages from MM to fill my void leading up to the big date. But regardless, this time, I went all out to secure it. The best part? It sold for less than my max bid from the first time! What a win. I’m so stoked to add this piece to my collection—it feels like I’ve completed my Machine Man quest, at least for now. Wow! What a wonderful page from Barry Windsor-Smith's run on Machine Man! Barry is just extraordinarily good at drawing extremely detailed scenes requiring lots of meticulous linework. Look at this page, there's an insane amount of detail in every panel! I especially appreciate the work Barry put into drawing panels six and seven, where Machine Man lifts his head after being electrocuted! I can't get over all the wires and circuitry spilling out of his head! IMHO, Barry Windsor-Smith is the most obsessively detailed comic artist ever!

Thank you for the kind comment Bill! I can't agree more with your comments, and to top it off, the preliminary blue lines blew me away, especially with the art in hand! I'm feeling blessed today!

Awesome BWS Machine Man page and a great story of persistence (and patience? kinda, lol) that paid off - congrats on the HA win and the awesome addition to the MM collection!

I had no interest in Machine Man until I saw BWS doing a cover and had to take a look inside I had to pick up anything he had done back in the day. What you don't get out of the books is seeing how amazing the OA looks without the colors and it really shines here. What an amazing page from one of the all time greats! Congrats

Wonderful story about a wonderful page. How fantatsic it must be to say, "yeah, I own that."
The comics of the mid-80s rocked!

The series itself wears the crown as the definitive Machine Man story for all time and hasn't been surpassed yet. This issue was pure BWS and the crown jewel of the series.

A BWS stunner if there ever was. Fantastic detail and action in every panel. The open circuitry is nothing short of stunning. Huge congrats on one of the most memorable pages in the 4 issue arc!
