DescriptionIn the most nostalgic sense, Rune marked a very memorable era of 90s comic book collecting. Barry Windsor-Smith’s relationship with the industry was always contentious, yet he keeps coming back to publishers with his latest creations, like his favorite drug.Rune was none other than Malibu’s biggest splash and attempt to capitalize on BWS’s next creation. Truth be told, it was clear that there were big plans for this character. In fact, I thought it was one of the most innovative takes on an antagonist—someone chasing greatness lost to time by extracting energy from superheroes. There was something there! The writing was awesome, with a lore that was meant to be much more expansive than the nine issues delivered. I guess we can only hope for a Marvel revival, but for now, I’ll cherish this milestone in BWS history. Social/Sharing |

Hot! 1994 and Ultraverse knew they needed to connect to the fantasy aspects of fandom. After BWS left Valiant, they knew he was the man for the job! Rune, like all Ultraverse after Marvel bought it hasn't been reprinted yet, holding these images down from their full potential.
