Wally Wood double spread title page for "Ullward's Retreat" by Jack Vance. Published in Galaxy Science Fiction - December 1958. Purchased at auction in partnership with my friend and fellow collector Doug Ellis as we both wanted it but partnered up instead of beating each other up over it, lol!

If you had beaten each other up over it, it would have been an internet sensation, seen on all the best clips shows! Think of others entertainment in future. Lol.

Wood works the silhouettes and the human form to tell the story here. They are even more interesting in their poses than the ballerina. Even the tree has a strange twist that can hold your interest.

Always nice to see a good Wood illustration, and cool to hear the auction story. I sometimes check with my friends too in regards to art coming to auction; I do try to avoid competing with them ... but not always (depending on how much I want a piece ... ;)
