Have you ever stumbled upon cover artwork that was never in your radar, let alone even knew existed, but once you saw it, you just knew you had to have it? You then hope it falls under the radar of other comic art collectors so that it ends up in your hands? This was one of those covers for me. As corny as this might sound, the playful vibe of this cover struck an emotional chord that I haven't felt about superhero comics in a long while. Supergirl and Batgirl exchanging a gift-wrapped Joker and Lex Luthor. Love it.

In a time when so many covers are either dark, gritty, or posey (not that there's anything intrinsically wrong with that as I own a few myself), this cover presented like such a breath of fresh air to me. It's fun, playful, joyous, and gives off this sometimes all too forgotten jovial vibe we often saw in golden and silver age covers where you didn't feel like the end of everything was cast upon us.

This "what did you get me?" cover artwork was also used as the DC Comics Christmas card sent out that year. Very happy to own it.

I don't usually post thoughts or feelings about a cover but made an exception here as it checked off many of the right boxes for me. Matt Haley is a delightful artist.

I agree with you--You don't often see covers as playful and joyful as this one. And what a pleasure it is to see the two superheroines exchanging gifts. A gift-wrapped Joker for Batgirl and a gift-wrapped Lex Luthor for Supergirl! It's charming and smile inducing at the same time. And may I add how much I enjoy Matt Haley's gorgeous drawing? I'm not familiar with his work but I really like what I see here. Both Batgirl and Supergirl are drawn in a playful, dare I say "cute"? style. I thought that was a long-lost skill. I'm going to have to look around and see what other work Matt has done. Thanks for sharing this lovely artwork!
