Y'know, I didn't realize a lot of the sweet Cannonball action was in the early part of the book. You do get a leather 'Ball on page 34 tho...

I know, I know, and it's a great panel as I already commented, but I just can't stand seeing him in that outfit, so for me it doesn't count. This is the stuff!

I think it's clear that at this stage, you are a costume fetichist, Ruben, and not any of them, it HAS to be the original costume too ;)

The really interesting thing about this costume is that it's literally from 1963, yet even today in 2024, I still think it looks really good, BUT....only on the New Mutants. If the current team had a book relaunch and the creative staff chose to put the team in this costume, I think it would still look good. However, I would NOT want to see, EVER, the X-Men wear them today as I think that would look dated. I suppose that means I must view the design as looking like it's very much intended for a "junior team" of X-Men, something the mutants in training would wear, but then get their own individual costumes once they graduate to the A-team. Ah pity the fool! Ah pity 'im!

I figured I'd try something different this year. It was an interesting task keeping to monthly themes, but some months were limiting. So fun experiment, but one and done.

More great duo tone use. Warlock is screaming because of the warp gate beginning to open. Is that why the alien is screaming too? And why he exploded?

Zip and dry brush! You know Ruben will be all over this page! The three insets across the middle might cinch it being one of the most well crafted pages of the story.

So many great action panels and character expressions, very well done. You can feel the chaos.
