DescriptionIf you were an impressionable X fan in the 80s the annuals were a thing! Once a year… some of the best stories and even better art. New Mutants annual 2 is one of those famous annuals… a classic Claremont story with Mojo and Spiral upto no good! It’s a fun one.. but the most important thing that comes from this issue , is it is the first us appearence of Psylocke and is the book that paves the way for her and to a lesser extent Captain Britain and Meggan to become part of the mutant universe. So getting a page from this one (especially because Alan Davis is one of my favorites and this is a rare pencil and inks by him) is a big get for my collection. Classic Davis throughout the page and I’ve always loved his version of warlock! Thank you very much to a good friend for trading it to me!Social/Sharing |

It's beautifully done with the handsome look of the characters with Davis' own inks while the wildcard Warlock manages to steal the show at every turn.

Gorgeous New Mutants page by the very accomplished Alan Davis. Love the way Davis keeps shifting our POV throughout the page, always working to keep the scene interesting. Davis is brilliant at composing a page, even one like this, with little action and much dialog. The best part of the page, of course, is Warlock. In every panel, my eye keeps going to him to see what he's up to as he morphs his shape from moment to moment. Love the way he's drawn in that second panel, with his wirey hair and one eye larger than the other. And of course, you can't help but smile in the final panel where Warlock shapeshifts his torso to become a video monitor warning of the arrival of the mutant, Magma. Fantastic pick-up., Jason, congrats!

So much dialogue on the page but AD's storytelling still shines with character/scene placements and those expressions. He's a maestro. Congrats on another to the collection!
