Description

�� Tom Bancroft is an animator and print cartoonist. He was supervising animator for the dragon Mushu in Disney's Mulan and he created Larryboy for Veggietales. Tom is the creator of the Opposite Forces comic book. He's written the instructional books Creating Characters with Personality and Character Mentor: Learn by Example to Use Expressions, Poses, and Staging to Bring Your Characters to Life. Tom founded the Mermay drawing month to celebrate creativity and mermaids. Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, started an animation program with Tom who was joined by his brother Tony and friend John Pomeroy. In February 2025, they will put on their Animation Y�all event.

�� Twin brothers Tom and Tony Bancroft grew up wanting to be strip cartoonists like Charles Schulz. After amateur stop motion films, they ended up going to CalArts to study character animation and went to work for Disney Animation Studios even before graduating. Striking out on their own, they've pursued a number of creative endeavors. Tom and Tony host The Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast. Interview subjects include directors Brad Bird and Pete Docter, animators Andreas Deja, and Eric Goldberg, and Glen Keane, and designers Terryl Whitlatch and Victoria Ying. My brother Stuart sponsors the podcasts. I first met Tom when he was an exhibitor at San Diego in 2002. Tony sometimes sat with him. I continued to see the brothers at CTNX Animation Expo and SDCC when I attended those events. This year, I caught up with the brothers at Lightbox Expo in Pasadena. Tom had a selection of pieces in his portfolio and this one stood out to me. It�s been a few years, but I�m very happy with this new addition.
