Last month's Heroes Comic Con in Brussels featured Darick Robertson as one of its main comic guests. His art on his co-creation "The Boys" was featured heavily in the marketing material and if I hadn't met Darick in 2019 and scored a great Homelander then, I'd have leaned that way.

When the opportunity presents itself, I reach out to artists who in some capacity worked on Ben Reilly's story and get a commission. This time was no different, as Darick wrote and penciled a few stories during the Clone Saga.

He LOVED the idea of tackling Spider-Man UNTIL I told him about the specific version I wanted. The 90s trend of updating costumes was not Darick's favorite period and he mentioned this curse of having to work on big characters, but never the "main" version.

Nevertheless, he adored my love for the costume and his work, and laughingly said: "For 30 minutes, this will be my favorite costume, too, then.". In the end, he took quite a bit longer, as he wanted to study the costume first.

The end result is a heroic and sturdy Ben, looking up - with excellent texture accents. I particularly like the way Darick did the webbing.

This commission was done in pencils and inks on a 9x12 board.
