DescriptionOffered here is the original art for a complete, 20-page story from "Adventures of the Fly #28" by John Rosenberger.Over the history of comics, there has been a number of overlooked and forgotten talents. John Rosenberger was one of those men, and it happened primarily because of the stories he was asked to draw. Briefly, Rosenberger's background was n oil painting and after returning from WWII he did illustrations and paperback covers but deadline pressure caused him to have a nervous breakdown in 1952. For a while he resumed doing paperback covers, but soon decided to freelance in comics. He began drawing stories for editor Richard E. Hughes' line of anthology books for the American Comics Group (ACG). During the latter part of the 1950s, Rosenberger had work in all the company's titles including Adventures into the Unknown, Forbidden Worlds, Unknown Worlds, and Romantic Adventures, On September 6, 1960, Rosenberger started an account with Archie Publications, and soon began work on the Simon & Kirby-created title The Fly for the Archie's Superhero Adventure Series. He then then teamed with Robert Bernstein to create the Jaguar and served as the regular artist on both titles until the group segued into the campy Mighty Comics. After leaving Archie he signed with DC but, primarily because he drew beautiful women, was placed primarily on DCs line of romance comics which, by the way, outsold a lot of their superhero titles. While at DC, he did do a few superhero titles... on issue of Brave And Bold featuring Supergirl, a short run on Lois Lane, and several issues of Wonder Woman before he died of a heart attack and cancer in 1977. SO he missed the superhero boom in 1966 and died before the next one in the 1980s. As I mentioned, he too over the Jack Kirby creation and began drawing Adventures of the FLy with issue 11 (March 1961)h He continued on the title until he left with this issue with a cover date of October 1963. This is the art for the complete 20-page story "The Fly Versus the Red Shark?/The Red Shark's Fantastic Fortress!". The story begins with attorney Tommy Troy bringing some land swindlers to justice. He decides to take a vacation in Florida where he becomes aware of a Cuban terrorist called the Red Shark who is bombing Cuban refugee boats raiding the coast of Cuba. As you might expect there is a huge battle and the Fly brings Red Shark to justice. It only happens in comic books. They are all rendered with ink over graphite, done twice-up with an image area of 12" x 18" on 14 x 22 Bristol board. Each of the three "Page 1" boards has a printed Fly logo. The first splash is missing a story title paste-up and has some glue residue in places. Several of the other pages have whiteout art clean-ups but overall the art is off-white and in great shape... and the splash would look great framed. As usual with me, shipping is not included in the price and must be paid by the buyer. I prefer checks or money orders. If you need to use PayPal, I need payment sent as a "gift" or via "Friends and Family". I apologize in advance if that is an inconvenience. I have been asked if I will ship to Europe... I will, but it is expensive and if you need to use PayPal for an international transaction I warn that PayPal requires items of this value to be insured for full value and requires a signature.
