Description

EDD CARTIER. "NAPOLEONIC HOKA BEAR," INK
(American, 1914-2008). Brush and India ink with black conte crayon on illustration board, signed "Edd Cartier" ul, 15 x 11 in., unframed.
Condition: Wrinkles in corners, dings to board

Framed illustrations from the book "Earthman's Burden" - we also have a copy of the book but it is not autographed, nor included here.

How did I acquire these?
My father, a a college student from Chicago, Illinios, visited Cartier in NYC (about 1957-58?) while visiting with their mutual friend Frank M. Robinson (speechwriter to Harvey Milk & author of a book that "The Towering Inferno" movie was based upon). Mr. Cartier gifted 4 of these illustrations to my father. He loved them and had them on his apartment wall... until... he married. My mother promptly removed them from the walls and they have been in an air conditioned closet ever since - he refused to get rid of them. My father passed away recently and I am clearing out the estate. None of our family are sci-fi fans and so hoping that someone who is will cherish them as my Mother apparently did not (:-D).
