DescriptionThis is from the beginning of Cap's origin as retold by Kirby and Lee. Unlike his original origin and the other retellings, this time, Cap is officially brought into the Marvel Age by the use of "Vita Rays."Glad to add this one to my collection. Social/Sharing |

Quite the handsome face on Steve Rogers reworked and refined while still maintaining that strong Kirby ruggedness and determination.

Have always loved this page, ever since I read the issue as a kid!
Not an action page, but so striking nonetheless.

this is amazing man!!! Arguably the best/most important of the Silver Age Captain America issues (and with that iconic cover pose too), what a fantastic Kirby splash as part of his origin re-told, love it! congrats

Largest published image of Cap's face ever? Cool looking Fury behind him too!

Now THAT'S a showstopper! Phenomenal splash page by Jack Kirby and Sid Shores. As handsome a portrait of Steve Rogers as I've ever seen. Even out of cosume, he just exudes that aura of gung-ho American soldier. The dark image of Nick Fury behind him, coldly assessing him, serves as a powerful contrast to Steve's patriotic fervor. Love the dialog here as much as the drawing--Steve is proudly proclaiming the virtues of the unheralded scientists who made him what he is today. All the while Fury remains that skeptical insider who wonders what all these memories are leading to. The whole page is a classic! Wonderful pick-up, Ron, congrats!

Ridiculously great splash of a true American hero.

John Romita went to town on that page. All that white paint indicates that it was heavily reworked by Romita. The end result is stunning but I would absolutely credit Romita with co-inking this piece. I'd be really curious to shine a light through this to see what it had looked like prior.
