Description

��Steve Rude does a great job on the HB characters and has done covers and interiors for the old Comico Jonny Quest and the DC Future Quest comics. The artist drew this piece in September 2022 as a monthlong art challenge. This scene may look obscure to the casual viewer, but instantly brought to mind the �Quetong Missile Mystery� even before seeing the title. Dr. Benton Quest comes to investigate poisoning in the country. Finding fish with toxins leads to a helicopter flight with Race Bannon over the swamp. The boys Jonny and Hadji are kidnapped and held in this bunker. Approaching the swamp in a small boat, Quest and Bannon spot and anesthetize several black clad sentries. Here we see Quest has disguised himself and lured a guard out. Jonny Quest show runner Doug Wildey assigned Alex Toth to design the guest characters for the final episodes. The prime time Jonny Quest only lasted one outstanding season due to high production costs. The show is still enjoyable and holds up well. I have been keeping an eye on this artwork for a couple years and then Steve offered a black Friday deal I could not pass up. The artwork arrived at the post office, but spent one week in an Arizona distribution center before moving along.

If you didn't look close enough, you would have thought this was a cel set up from the revival series! Rude stays true to the original Hanna Barbera look in design, color, and figurework.
