DescriptionOriginal artwork for Brave and the Bold #34 page 17 (DC, 1961) by the legendary talents of Golden-Age great writer Gardner Fox and artist Joe Kubert (pencils and inks). This key issue represents one of the most important, masterfully written and exquisitely illustrated comic books of the entire Silver-Age, which features the origin and first appearance of the Silver-Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl in the epic tale, "Creature of a Thousand Shapes." Fox would resurrect his original early Golden-Age heroes from Flash Comics (i.e., Carter Hall, the reincarnated Prince Khufu from ancient Egypt and his beloved Shiera Sanders) into the Police Officer married duo of Katar and Shayera Hol from the alien planet Thanagar. As the famed "Winged Wonders," Hawkman and Hawkgirl track the inter galactic master shape-shifting criminal known as Byth Rok to Midway City of planet Earth. On this superb battle-action page, Hawkman and Hawkgirl relentlessly pursue after Byth, who has transformed himself into a creature unlike the heroes have ever seen nor encountered in all their journeys across the galaxy. The daring duo dive into the attack, firing with their bows and arrows as Byth blasts back with deadly lightning blasts that nearly destroy them both. Pulse-pounding scene includes multiple superb images of both heroes, highlighted by a ALL-TIME GREAT FULL IMAGE OF HAWKGIRL, narrowly dodging a lightning bolt blast from Byth, swooping into full attack and firing her arrows (panel three), as this intense melee rages on for nearly an hour, until Byth's energy bolts begin to wane in power and he realizes that he is on the edge of defeat. The crafty criminal flees in retreat with Hawkman and Hawkgirl in hot pursuit in the final panel. This page is a glorious testament to both legends Gardner Fox and Joe Kubert at the prime peak of their talents, combined and presented in one wonderful and truly great unforgettable epic saga for all time. Quite early and helped shape the rest of the silver age that followed! It pulled together the fantastical, science, and adventure genres that dominated the industry into something new.
