DescriptionFrom GENERATION X first annual in 1995, comes this page from the OF LEATHER AND LACE storyline.Cordelia Frost (first appeared in Generation X #3, earlier in the year) knocks on door of Xavier’s X Mansion, Skin (Angelo Espinosa, who first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #317, the year eaarlier) answers skeptically as she reveals that she is Emma Frost’s (White Queen, the co-headmaster of Generation X) sister. This page features some fantastic Sienkiewicz art, page layout choices, panels and sketch borders, you can really see certain decisions highlighted in the colored published page. Love how Skin in the lower panel is partially in and out of the panel frame with some swirly art nouveau edges. Skin’s thin gangly body emphasizes his unique stretchy skin powers that are snapped firmly back to his body. The upper panel showcases Skin’s unflattering look onto the very “coy” and “innocent” Codelia who is looking for help. We predominantly get the top down view of her to highlight her powerless body stance. Her face is small, eyes fairly closed compared to Skin’s face that is big and eyes wide open. He sees her for who and what she is, but he and we (the audience) still get the surprise reveal of her being Emma’s sister. As this year comes to a close, this art represents opening the door to new and better opportunities, you never know what adventures will be had, but here’s to having some great meaningful ones; happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and have a safe restorative New Year! I think Sieniewicz takes some inspiration from Bachalo with the swirl pattern and the dark fills, The scratchy panel borders, splatter, and energy of the expressions are pure Bill.

What a kickass page from Generation X! Interesting work by Bill Sienkiewicz. I love the first panel with the bizarre-looking Skin appearing to be puzzled. Then the cutaway to the secoind panel with the innocent-looking girl and Skin silhouetted in the doorway. It's such an interesting layout, but then, it's from Bill Sienkiewicz who was really exploring what he could do with drawing and layout. I like the rough edged panels and the strange swirls. Sienkiewicz's inks are also very scratchy and not all smooth lines like most inkers were doing. The whole page is an example of the experimentation Sink was exploring at this time. Marvelous pick-up, congrats!
