DescriptionPencils on 11"x17" Marvel art board depicting Johnny Storm and Galactus's ship. Picked up at HeroesCon 2023; thank you to Matt Wieringo.The late, great Mike Wieringo (1963-2007) is one of my favorite artists. His pencils are very tight, and he drew with a buoyant, "animated" style. His pages always had a sense of kinesis and dynamism, which great comic book storytelling requires. People have described his work as "cartoony" but it's actually very grounded; he was a master of depicting the human form and then blending it with various animated influences. There are interviews where he discussed the importance of live figure drawing practice to his artistic development. His work continues to inspire today. Social/Sharing |
