DescriptionIf you're seeking a lovely Uncle Scrooge by Carl Barks, what motif could be better than one based on Scrooge's first solo comic, Four Color #386 from 1952, aka "Only a Poor Old Man?" Barks re-interpreted this image on multiple occasions, and this particular one is indexed by Barks researchers as #26-71. It's the fourth of the eight "Money Lake" paintings produced. The first four paintings in the series were done in 1971, with the remaining four completed between 1972 and 1975. Of the eight, the first and this fourth painting are considered the brightest and most vibrant. The image features the three nephews (Huey, Dewey, and Louie), along with Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge McDuck. Depictions of Money Lake are nearly as sought after as those of the Money Vault, and this example is spectacular! It captures each character's personality beautifully, with the nephews giving new meaning to the phrase "fishing for change". Social/Sharing |
