For Abarat, Barker created a ton of artwork, including ink drawings that bring the archipelago’s bizarre inhabitants and landscapes to life. His ink work tends to focus on character sketches and fantastical scenes—think creatures like John Mischief with his antler-bound brothers or the menacing Mater Motley. The lines are expressive, sometimes jagged, giving the characters a sense of movement and unease. Barker’s use of ink is pretty freeform; he’s not afraid to let it splatter or bleed, which adds to the otherworldly feel of the Abarat islands. Clive Barker is an amazing storyteller indeed. I will NEVER forget the first time I watched "Hellraiser". Nothing like it at the time. Fun to see these Andrew!
