Description

The last two comics books I followed religiously were Dark Horse's "Ghost" in the '90s, and "Catwoman" by Brubaker/Cooke/Rader/Stewart/Gulacy in the early 2000's. Afterwards, I quit making regular trips to the comic shop entirely, and continued collecting original art instead.

I became disenchanted with "Ghost" when it appeared that Dark Horse couldn't hold on to a regular artist. This was offset hugely by the fact that every issue of the first run of the series was scripted by the excellent Eric Luke, however.

Prices for art have gotten so high, I haven't bought anything new in a year. But the beauty of this splash couldn't be denied. I told myself I was no longer interested in buying interior pages, but then I saw this, which is wordier than what I usually go for in a piece. The armchair editor in me might've excised the blocky fourth caption, to give the art a little more space to breathe. But it's a moot point, since Luke was such a fine writer, and his prose so edgy and delicious.

This Ghost had attitude. And an actual reason for it for a change, not typical for superhero characters.

Really beautiful splash page Mark! Congratulations! Sometimes it's better when there are lags between purchases...when you find something you "really" want, it's all the more sweet!

Designed art nouveau illustration style with the arch and the pin up pose of Ghost. Haley was on fire in the 90's with Ghost and his work for DC series. They were always classy versions in a sea of bad girl styles.

Ghost was indeed a fine read and personally I found that between AH, Halley and Benefiel, consistency of style remained high.
