Description

1-2025...As an architect, I really love this shot of the city from a classic Disney Short.

From the description...

Man's Best Friend Cars Production Cel with City Street Key Master Background (Walt Disney, 1952). "Somewhere, within the crowded confines of the big city, there roams a lonesome man in need of companionship. But for every friendless man, there is always a dog, man's best friend."

Staggering hand-painted Key Master setup, seen right at the beginning of the 1952 short Man's Best Friend at the 0:35 mark, right after the opening credits. Directed by the great Jack Kinney, this hilarious short featured Goofy as George Geef, finding the joys and difficulties of owning a dog.

This lot showcases the impressive 16-field hand-painted and hand-inked production cel of the cars driving through the streets, featured on the absolutely stunning Key Master background. Crafted in gouache on a 16-field background board, this amazing background shows a low-angle view of the high buildings, credited to Dick Anthony (1905 - 1960). Pinholes can be seen on the top corners of the background.

It has the flavor of the 50's big city that were shown in a lot of animation that we all grew up on.  A concrete jungle gave the stories a personality and edge of their own.

Thanks Marcus! Yes, the classic cartoons really knew how to grab our attention with the settings!
