DescriptionD.C. Comics. October, 2008.A masterfully crafted page from the Joker graphic novel. Jonny Jonny seals his fate after saying he really is sorry. As it turns out the thing Joker hates more than anything is apologies- sorry Jonny! At the same time, Two-Face calls on Batman with a makeshift Bat-Signal. I especially like how the line splitting the bottom panel doubles as part of the window frame the two characters are looking out of, further separating them after Jonny's apology. Genius. The bottom panel is all Bermejo in a combination of pencil, ink and ink wash. As always, scans don't do Lee's art justice and it's much more apparent on these rendered pages. He does so much layering of graphite on top of ink that you really need to see it in person to get all the rich details. Signed & dated in the bottom margin: Mick Gray 2010 Social/Sharing |

damn man this is an awesome page! That bottom panel is just absolutely superb especially with the tones and shadows plus all that detail to get the city view and Bat-Signal. The Joker graphic novel still holds up as the best Joker story/book of the 2000s to present for me, great writing and artwork. Congrats!

Bermejo works two styles and makes them work cohesively in the final look of the page. The stark black and white heightens the crime noir aspects, while the amazing last panel that pulls us back and grounds the story into a level of dark realism!

Killer page from the Joker Graphic Novel by Lee Bermejo. This is one of my favorite books. I loved the storyline but best of all, I love the art. Lee has grown a lot over the time he's been drawing comics but I think he hit a new peak when he drew this one. Joker is so vile in this story, but the story treats that as just the way it is, no biggie. Lee draws him in a straightforward way, showing all the wrinkles and creases of his clothing and his face, holding back nothing. And that approach works with the Joker, because he holds back nothing. As Popeye said so famously, "I yam what I yam." Never truer than with the Joker.

One of the best graphic novels of the past 20 years. Great pages.
