DescriptionLittle known fact but that before Miller's DKR there were some good Batman stories to be had. Batman up against the Wrath, the ani-Batman, by Mike Barr and drawn by Michael Golden and Mike DeCarlo.Three excellent panels: Batman having averted the assassination of Jim Gordon, Batman whisking Gordon away, and then the assassin himself, the Wrath, with Batman in his sights. DC did a fun follow up story in 2008 in Batman Confidential (13-16) that's well worth tracking down (the trade for it also includes the original story). Rags Morales did an excellent job on the art, even if he gave Jim Gordon the worst haircut ever. Well, one of. Social/Sharing |

this is a great page by Golden, that shot of Batman gliding away with Gordon through the scope is chef's kiss.

Next level stuff for the time period! This shook up the way Batman artists were judged in the post Adams era as guys like Rogers and Golden brought modern graphic design techniques to push the medium forward.

Still one of the best Batman books ever. And Golden at the height of his powers.
Anyone who hasn't read it so go forth and get it because it is criminally undervalued - the DC equivilent of MG's Doctor Strange issue.
