I was deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of Peter David, who penned so many of the titles that I regularly read in the 1990s and early 2000s, including The Incredible Hulk, X-Factor, and Spider-man 2099, just to name a few. The latter title is one that I remember with particular fondness for David's whip smart scripts and Rick Leonardi's lovely, flowing pencil lines.

One of my favorite throughlines from the series was the relationship between Miguel and his holographic AI sidekick, Lyla, which David used to provide an often humorous and occasionally frightening commentary on the potential pitfalls of AI. His take on the subject from 30 years ago seems eerily prescient and relevant to the challenges we currently face from the AI explosion of today.

Another piece touched by the writing of Peter David! His imagination and writing for 2099 allowed him to build and expand the 2099 world with Leonardi and Williamson!
