DescriptionBatman: Sword of Azrael! The opening page of "No One Is Innocent" Joe Quesada! Kevin Nowlan! Magic!Joe Quesada is one of my all time favorite artists! And while his Daredevil run with Jimmy Palmioitti is my all time favorite, Kevin Nowlan inking him on Azrael is Dynamite! I think I've had this page since 2017. I definitely should have posted sooner. Azrael is not decent. Azrael is not humane! Azrael is the instrument of righteous cruelty! — Nomoz More info: Synopsis for "No One Is Innocent" After Azrael (Jean-Paul Valley) knocks out the guard at Harcourt's mansion, the rest of the security team attempt to take him down. However, aided by his flamethrower gauntlets, Azrael slays all of them including some hounds. Then he breaks into an illuminated greenhouse, only to find Mr. Harcourt murdered by Carleton LeHah disguised as Batman. LeHah tries to escape in a car. Azrael jumps on top of it but is knocked down by a branch, and the killer makes an easy escape. While Alfred Pennyworth tends Azrael's head injuries, the two of them, along with Nomoz, decide to travel to LeHah's possible location: an oil refinery in Texas. Meanwhile, LeHah is holding Bruce Wayne captive in the Texas refinery. To appease his demon lord Biis, LeHah tortures Bruce with hot steel heated by a blowtorch. But Bruce talks to him, confusing the man and buying some time. Alfred, Nomoz, and Azrael are outside, trying to find a way in, but the security is impenetrable. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning strikes a nearby electrical tower, causing a power failure that grants the trio an easy way into the building. Just before LeHah fires a bullet at Bruce, Azrael throws a flaming knife at him, causing LeHah to fire repeatedly at some pipes at the roof. The pipes started to leak oil, which soon ignites and burns the whole refinery. Azrael saves Bruce by using the fireproof cape of Batman's costume and carrying him out of the explosion. LeHah is left inside and apparently burns to death. Nomoz reproaches Azrael for saving Bruce, saying that he has disgraced the name of the Avenging Angel. Jean-Paul answers that he is no angel, implying that he has gained control over the system. Social/Sharing |

Ninjak taken to the next level! Slick inks by Nowlan as he and Joe Q made this look more Marvel than DC at the time.

Wow! Jaw-dropping title splash for Batman: Sword of Azrael #4. Pencilled by the great Joe Quesada and inked by the legendary Kevin Nowlan, the splash depicts Azrael stalking towards the Harcourt Mansion. I love the way Azrael is sillhouetted by the lights of the mansion--It makes Azrael look like a giant eight-legged arachnid approaching its prey. And that's pretty much what Azrael is--A predator who wants only to kill. Stunning work by Quesada and Nowlan make this storyline a modern-day classic. Thanks for posting this, Nick!
