In conjunction with F M’s ‘Doodle Week’, I wanted to present a similar assortment of con sketch confectionery, delicious doodles, and candied commissions to celebrate the holiday season here on CAF…. The return of the festive, goofy, goody-laden, OA Advent calendar…. The return of the ART-VENT CALENDAR (2025 EDITION)! :)

Today wraps up this year’s Art-vent Calendar, but before I go, I’d like to leave you with three Things to consider…

A terrific old school counterpart to the sketch I posted today of Ben in his Future Foundation uniform (please compare for yourself in my Kalman Andrasofszky gallery). I just love the jagged lines and rough edges, which, of course, fit Ben to a T. I also love Ben’s huge mitts here, equally qualified for haymakers and ham-makers (in recognition of his Dagwood specials), and the expression on Ben’s face says it all: you really don’t wanna mess with this guy, because he’s just having the craziest day…

Kevin infuses some insanely fantastic Kirby character and attitude into this quick sketch (about 5.5”x5” on an 8.5”x11” sheet of paper), and as an extra bonus, I get to do a quick EricDLS shout-out, since I’m adding my first Nowlan piece. :) Thank you again, Grant!

AND A QUICK UPDATE - this piece looks to be the prelim for a piece that CAF's own Man/Thing, the mighty Chris Snorek, commissioned from Kevin. (Should have known that all Things good and Grimm would have gone through Chris first!) Please check it out in his gallery! It's well worth the visit!

First of all, congratulations on your very first Nowlan. I hope it marks the beginning of a long love affair with this incredible artist. I don't think you could have picked a better piece to start with. Whether intentional, or perhaps resulting from its "quick" creation, the raw roughness of the linework really lends itself to the character. Adding to its uniqueness, this is a character that Kevin just hasn't done very often (at least compared to his countless Doctor Strange and/or Batman drawings). It's always fun and interesting to see artists challenge themselves with characters OTHER than those they are very comfortable or familiar with. Again, my congratulations. And of course my thanks for the very kind shout-out.

I love the fact that you can still tell it's a Nowlan piece through a sketchy marker piece. Love it!

Nice, solid Thing image - with proportions that make Ben look a bit like an earth elemental. The lumbering pose is perfect.

It's always so distinctivly Nowlan when he puts pen or ink to paper, whatever the stage. Another nice one.

Cool Nowlan Thing prelim/sketch and congrats on your first piece by him! This final set of Things doodled pretty hard, a good way for the Art-vent calendar for 2025 to go out!
