DescriptionWhat a great Gil Kane cover! Big thanks to Nick Barrucci for letting me be the next caretaker of this piece! I love how this cover shows Cap fighting against a bunch of villains as he tries to rescue Falcon, who is being mind-controlled... Will Cap be able to defeat the Red Skull and the Masters of Evil? I love Gil Kane's work on this one, with some great inks by Esposito!!Social/Sharing |

Who knew Red Skull had the kung fu flying kick as one of his power moves? This era of Gil Kane is his best in cover designs! Well framed with Falcon as Cap's goal and he's closed in the right side of the composition!

It's terrible, the bad rep that pacifists get. But I gotta say, that's some pretty cool cap violence going on!

My favourite part of this cover, aside from being a lifelong Kane fan, is the Red Skull kicking Cap in the face! Who knew Herr Skull had such athletic, martial arts prowess?

Gil Kane covers from the '70s are always great! Love this action-packed scene with Captain America battling a horde of bad guys while the Red Skull tries a Kung Fu kick at his ribs! It's a busy scene with the Black Knight hovering overhead, waiting his chance to attack. Yet all the while, the Falcon stands passively in the forground, not joining in to help Cap! Why? That's the cleverness of Bronze Age covers, they almost always show the most dramatic--or the most dire--moment of the story right on the cover! This was how they convinced readers to buy the book--It's the only way to find out why! Fabulous pick-up, congrats!
