DescriptionI've had this splash page for 10 years, and just not had time to post it. But got the Crisis #5 page with Ted Grant losing his legs, and felt that it would be the perfect time to post this page. Beautiful Todd McFarlane art with nice inks by Steve Montano. You can see her overseeing the JSA and All-Star Squadron being displaced during Crisis on Infinite Earths. Just a great and historic page! From right in the midst of the epic Crisis on Infinite Earths era comes this full-page "twice-up" title splash by a young Todd McFarlane, featuring the debut of the new Wildcat, Yolanda Montez. Before Todd McFarlane became the biggest comic book superstar in a generation, he made his mark on Infinity, Inc., a series in the mid-80s featuring the children and proteges of the legendary Justice Society of America, the first team of superheroes from the Golden Age. This issue was a direct tie-in with Crisis on Infinite Earths, the maxi-series that would change DC continuity forever by merging the multiple Earths into one. During the Crisis, Golden Age hero Wildcat, AKA heavy weight boxing champ Ted Grant, was injured and lost the use of his legs. His protege and Goddaughter, Yolanda Montez, decides to take up the mantle of Wildcat. This is the first time we see her in costume in Infinity, Inc.. She would go on to join the team, taking Grant's place for some time. Also on the page, we see three Golden Age heroes--Liberty Belle, the Golden Age Atom (Al Pratt) and, in one of his very last appearances before his death in Crisis on Infinite Earth #12, the Golden Age Green Arrow. "Come down green girl -- daughter of my old enemy Green Lantern! Come down -- and we fight to the death!" — Solomon Grundy More information on Yolanda Montez: Yolanda Montez's mother Maria was experimented on by the insane Dr. Love while she was pregnant. But unlike his other test subjects (including Maria's sister), Love lost track of Maria and her family when they moved from Mexico to the US to be with Maria's husband, the boxer 'Mauler' Montez. When Yolanda Montez was born, her godfather was another boxer, Ted Grant who was also the superhero Wildcat. Yolanda eventually developed super powers which gave her feline characteristics, and when Wildcat was injured during the events of the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Yolanda decided to succeed him as Wildcat, joining Infinity, Inc. soon afterward. Yolanda later encountered the man shark Carcharo who proved to be her cousin, as well as Doctor Love's other test subjects, the mutated teenagers known as Helix. Wildcat II remained with Infinity, Inc. until the team disbanded, but was later killed while battling Eclipso as a member of the Shadow Fighters. More information on comic: Synopsis for "Feithera by Stormlight!" Wildcat II eavesdrops on Green Arrow of Earth-Two, Atom of Earth-Two and Liberty Belle in a scene paralleling events in Crisis #7. Immediately thereafter, the Star-Spangled Kid and Jonni Thunder are hurled into the past by an enemy vortex, another result of the bizarre weather. They are followed by Knodar, a criminal from the future pulled into the present by the Crisis. Meanwhile, Jade and Brainwave II accompany Northwind to his home, the hidden civilization of Feithera. Together with Solomon Grundy (taken from Feithera, then returned, by Harbinger), they prevent a glacier from killing the inhabitants of the city before it gets destroyed. Social/Sharing |

It's right to wait 10 years now that first appearances have made their mark in original art collecting. A first appearance page of a Todd McFarlane character is rare.
