The 1976 edition of Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year, edited by Charles Brooks, provides a visual commentary on the major events of 1975 through the work of 145 leading editorial cartoonists from the United States and Canada. This fourth volume in the series captures the political and social climate of the time, focusing on Gerald Ford’s presidency, the CIA and FBI controversies, inflation and the energy crisis, Middle East conflicts, and the growing field of contenders for the U.S. presidency. The collection includes more than 350 cartoons, offering a diverse range of perspectives on the year’s most pressing issues. Brooks, an award-winning editorial cartoonist for the Birmingham News and former president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists, curated this volume to highlight the role of editorial cartoons in shaping public discourse.

Lou Erickson contributed 1 cartoon to this edition found on page 93.

Bill Andrews was a politically driven editorial cartoonist known for his sharp commentary on social justice and political issues. Born in Tucson, Arizona, in 1937, he developed a passion for drawing early on and eventually worked as a staff cartoonist for the Arizona Republic. His career took him to The Daily World in New York, where his cartoons tackled major topics such as the Vietnam War and housing conditions. He received multiple awards, including the Newspaper Guild of New York’s Page One Award and a Silurian Society Medallion. Later, he worked at Arizona State University’s Graphics Department until 1997, leaving behind a legacy of politically engaged artwork.
