This sixth volume in the series captures the political and social turbulence of the time, including the Carter Administration’s struggles, the Bert Lance affair, the cash-and-carry Korean scandal, and the antics of Billy Carter. The book also highlights international issues such as the Middle East conflict, the Panama Canal debate, and President Carter’s advocacy of human rights. Featuring over 360 cartoons, the collection showcases a range of perspectives, including contributions from Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonists. A special tribute is paid to Cy Hungerford, the longtime editorial cartoonist for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, who retired in 1977 after a career spanning 74 years. Brooks, a former president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists, curated this volume to emphasize the role of editorial cartoons in shaping public discourse. You can explore the book further here. Lou Erickson had 2 cartoon contributions to this edition which can be found on pages 108 and 155. Inscription: Bill Andrews was a politically driven editorial cartoonist known for his sharp commentary on social justice and political issues. Born in Tucson, Arizona, in 1937, he developed a passion for drawing early on and eventually worked as a staff cartoonist for the Arizona Republic. His career took him to The Daily World in New York, where his cartoons tackled major topics such as the Vietnam War and housing conditions. He received multiple awards, including the Newspaper Guild of New York’s Page One Award and a Silurian Society Medallion. Later, he worked at Arizona State University’s Graphics Department until 1997, leaving behind a legacy of politically engaged artwork. Social/Sharing |
