In this oversized illustration, the usually gruff and gung-ho Hellboy pauses in a rare moment of quiet reflection -- rosary beads in hand, standing before a cathedral, with a wall of skeletal figures barring his path like spectral sentinels. Surrounded by symbolic imagery like numbered skulls, doves, and lilies, the piece explores a powerful duality of heaven and hell, redemption and damnation. Fully bathed in light, this contemplative take on Big Red stands in stark contrast to the shadow-drenched world of Mike Mignola's signature style. Created in watercolor and ink over graphite on watercolor board with an image area of 13" x 19.75", beautifully matted and Plexiglas-front framed to 24" x 30.75". It captures a side of Hellboy we don't often see and it's probably the reason Mignola had it in his collection.
