Description

John Byrne did a 6-plate set in 1993 for Editions Dessee which were inked by others. However, before he settled on his 6 plates, This is a discarded plate that is not part of the set -- John had laid out the page, penciled the characters, inked Sauron and Storm and started inking Cyclops and Nightcrawler when he decided instead to feature another scene from this issue in the portfolio. Joe Rubinstein did blue-line inks on this so here you can see both the pencils and Joe's blue-line inks.

A character as large as Sauron and the space needed for a confrontation probably works best with a double pager as this scene is too epic to squeeze into one plate.
