Description

"Duty Part One" by C.J. Henderson, April 1998.

An early story in the Batman timeline. Commissioner Gordon and the Gotham Police confront the Joker sans Batman. In cahoots with a mysterious third party, the Joker lures Gordon's handpicked squad into a deadly trap. Although the Joker and the public consider the Gotham Police incompetent, Gordon's forensics and analysis team reveals the next target.

Man, that first panel has some outstanding perspective! What a great shot. I actually thought it was Breyfogle at first. Really nice techniques all over the bottom half of the page as well. A great page by the one time wunderkind!

Love the tall buildings and having Gordon's long coat drawn the same manner in the first panel! The overhead Batsignal sells the entire page. All that rain adds to a somber and dramatic tone below!

I love the way he changes the angles from panel to panel, giving depth to the scene.

Perfect phrase for pages like this - Gotham noir! That was the attraction.
