Description

For this who read or follow the Ice Cream Man horror anthology comic series, you are aware that the creators do frequent homages to other genres, or comics. In this issue, homages to famous children’s books and authors are used to illustrate the story about the temptations and depredations of drug addiction. These two pages are drawn by artist Martin Marazzo the distinctive style of Dr. Suess from Green Eggs & Ham. Only instead of Green Eggs and Ham, the protagonist is being tempted with heroin. One of the variant covers of this issue famously parodies the cover to the Cat & the Hat. Although another variant and reproduces Green Eggs & Ham. The crux of this issue is not just about drug addiction. It is how the Ice cream Man warps the minds of the children, which become little doppelgangers of the Ice Cream Man by the end of the story, as he reads twisted versions of well-known children's stories. (I have the final page depicting this scene as well. I may post that at some point).

The Ice Cream Man creative team were tapped by DC Comics to do a new Superman story called Superman: The Kryptonite Specturm."
