DescriptionBeing such a big fan of late 50's and early 60's DC comics, this was a great find for me! In fact, Justice League of America #1 was the first comic book that I ever bought -- and Justice League of America #3 was actually the second issue of that title that I purchased (for some reason, I never found issue #2 on the stands). Since I will obviously never own the original, this is a great way to enjoy the cover anyway. I don't know the history of this piece, so I don't know if it was a commission, created for a specific publication or exactly why Ordway chose to create this particular cover. In any case, the detail is fantastic and he did a terrific job of staying true to the original. Here is the only description that I have for the piece, so if anyone has any more details, I would sincerely appreciate hearing from you:Kanjar Ro forces the JLA into rowing his "Slave Ship of Space!" in this recreation of the classic Murphy Anderson cover by Jerry Ordway featuring Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and the Martian Manhunter. Ink and white paint highlights over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Signed and dated by Ordway in the image area. Social/Sharing |

I think I've seen this in the past in someone else's CAF gallery but whatever ownership journey has been, it's in good hands now. And like the story that you told, this appearance of this issue on the comic book rack in the local corner luncheonette was right around the time that I discovered The Justice League. Kanjar Ro is still one of my favorite JLA villains.
