Description(Apologies for the glare on the glass. I've included a picture of the published page, without the writing on the couch pillow. )Reading Stray Bullets during its original print runs was a full throttle experience. Lapham's art and writing were top notch and exhilarating. After a few years buying original art in the late 1990s, I paused when my children were born. That pause lasted almost 20 years. When I got back in the game, this was the first page I bought. David was great. He personalized it (on the pillow), and included a paste-up panel he'd long ago drawn to replace something on some page. And he included an Amy Racecar sticker. I put it all on a wall in my home office. Now the sad news: I was so happy with that page and in my interactions with David, a couple of years later I made my first ever commission request to anyone, with him. He was very excited about the theme and quickly created and emailed a sketch of what the page would look like. It was PHENOMENAL! I greenlit his sketch, paid in full, and eagerly waited for the page to arrive. And waited. And waited. It's been over three years and I still haven't received that commission. Two years after I paid he apologized and promised to do it soon. Eventually he ghosted me. Caveat emptor, indeed. Ah well .... I still have this page and my fond memories of reading this series for the first time way back when. EDIT 19AUG2025: Thanks to a very helpful CAF member, I managed to contact Lapham and he has (re?)began work on my commission. I've been sent updates and the picture looks like it's going to be fantastic. I'll post it when it arrives. Social/Sharing |

Damn, I'd hate to hear that, but it's very necessary. Sometimes it's better to not meet your heroes. Post those prelim sketches to stake claim on paid art in case he ever sells it to someone else. This page is from one of the most notable arcs and leaves a lasting impression.

I never thought about that. I'll add the prelim as an extra pic on this entry.
My theme is two heroes from different comic book universes fighting a villain, with a rapper and a real life strong-willed female.
Lapham was to do Green Lantern & Dr Strange fighting Dormammu. Tupac and Justice Ketanji Brown-Jackson were in the pic. David was also going to add a lot of extras, like some Stray Bullets characters, Wonder Woman, Jean Grey, and more.
I hope to get the finished picture one day. It will be worth the wait.
