Description

A hand-drawn storyboard from George Lucas' Star Wars: A New Hope. This early production artwork was illustrated by groundbreaking effects designer Joe Johnston, who later won an Oscar for his work on Raiders of the Lost Ark. It depicts an original version of Alderaan as a floating city above a gas giant-a concept eventually abandoned for the first film but later reimagined as Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back.

Drawn in ink on vellum, the storyboard shows the floating city in the distance through a cockpit viewport. Handwritten notes label it "Board 27," written on a strip of adhesive placed over "28A," and "Cloud Set BG." Johnston's signature appears in the lower corner. The lot exhibits a minor tear along one edge and a small area of discoloration.
