Description

3-2025...Great storyboards with Sylvester!

When cartoon writers are plotting a script with storyboard drawings, a lot of ideas are bandied about, some of which fall by the wayside. Here is a pair of rare original storyboards created for this Friz Freleng short, first shown on 9/27/1958, with scenes that did not make the final cut.

The first is a scene from inside Lacy's Department Store that takes place on an escalator. We see Granny on an "up" escalator trying to run down it after Sylvester has stolen her hat from the other side, riding down and sticking out his tongue at Granny "getting nowhere." In the short, Granny rides an elevator instead. The second storyboard has a prone policeman firing shots at a running Sylvester; in the filmed short, there's only a scene of a traffic cop looking confused as Sylvester is dragged down the street after his attempt to get Granny's hat (with Tweety on top) with a fishing pole and line before she gets into a cab has the poor pussycat being pulled behind.

Both drawings are in graphite with red penciling on Sylvester's nose, drawn on paper with a ruled 5.25" x 3.75" outline; the images spill out past the borders on each. Both are on backing sheets measuring approximately 8.75" x 7.5".
