DescriptionSoooo I did a thing at NYCC this year. I did not stay in my lane… I made an impulse deal (Thanks Anthony S!) but unlike most impulse buys.. this is a keeper. I mean Frank Frazetta.. how could it go wrong. The name alone transcends our tiny corner of the world. And the art that came from that man is mind blowing. We have all marveled at the paintings most of us will never own but we all dream of. So I’ve been poking my head out of my lane for some time … following all the small pieces like this that come to auction. Simple sketches and prelims doodles.. with price tags that are significant even then. But nothing got me to pull the trigger. I wanted it to be right. And while wondering around NYCC hanging by the Snyders booth.. Anthony shows me this piece that he just got in a deal.. it’s lovely.. he goes on to tell me it is actually Ellie Frazetta.. not a random sketch.. or life drawing. But the man’s wife! Now that’s the type of subject that adds some depth to a sketch for me. I put it down… I don’t need it.. walk around a little . And it’s stuck in my head. Let’s just see if we can make a deal. As always smooth as silk with Anthony and I have a Frazetta to hang!Of course when I get home .. I’m just staring at it. But wait.. I did no due diligence.. and I’m out of my depth. But the great community we have a buddy who is an avid fan.. lets me know it’s real .. and it’s Ellie! A quick history lesson about the Frazetta relationship from Mr.Nam and I feel even better about the piece. I knew what I saw in this one that kept me thinking about it. It was Franks love of Ellie! Very nice personal piece by Frank. She was his muse for many of his works. The slight twist of the left leg is more true to life than any pin up modern artists could pull off.

Hopefully you quit X-Men now that you discovered Frazetta. Leave some for the rest of us. On a serious note..this is great. Congrats on finding this and more so for bringing it home.

Yup, theirs was a real American love story. Had their bumps along the way like anyone, but a true romance.
