DescriptionI didn’t know of Drew when I watched my favorite childhood’s movies for many of which he created these gorgeous movie poster paintings. But once a friend introduced me to him and his mesmerizing work, there was no turning back, I became a die-hard fan of his other-worldly beautiful artwork.Today is a very sad day, as I just learned of his passing yesterday (October 13th), so I thought to post this in tribute of him. Rest in peace Drew…thank you for all the wonderful memories! This is the final movie poster artwork for John Carpenter’s 1986 classic “Big Trouble in Little China”. This was a must-have as it’s one of Drew’s most recognizable works and marked his second collaboration with Carpenter after 1982's The Thing. As Kurt Russell never strikes the exact pose depicted on the poster, the body is actually Drew himself, wearing a muscle shirt that he drew the graphic onto himself (a friend of his stood in for Kim Cattrall). In The Art of Drew Struzan, he wrote: "Some people love the poster because they love the movie. Others love it because they love the art. I love it because it was good to me." Social/Sharing |

What an amazing artist. This movie was a blast to see in the theaters and one of my favorites. Struzan's work was always stunning and this is a fine example to have

Just a beauty in the way he can boil down and capture the spirit of the films Struzan did posters for. For any blockbuster, Struzan was the man for the job. This is a great way to memorialize him as he brought Hollywood magic to even the ones that don't hit. They'd often become cult classics on VHS and home video on the strength of his art standing out in the video stores.

Absolutely spectacular Struzan example. The likenesses are amazing, every element is perfectly indicated, the color is gorgeous, and the composition is expertly controled despite the complexity of the image. RIP

It captures the fun of the film's lighthearted action. Amazing that Drew could be his own body double for this.

When you look at Drew's work one thought comes to mind: Man, I just don't think there is anyone that's better.
Thanks for sharing this incredible piece. Drew was so friggin' gifted and his talent truly honored the films he was creating the art for, every time. I don't think there will ever be another quite like him.

I love this movie and I've watched it so many times. But I could just as easily stare at this for a couple of hours and get the same enjoyment. Drew was such an enormous talent. This is ONE poster. Just think, there are 150 more to enjoy forever. Thanks Drew. Rest in peace.

Congrats! Great piece, love the composition. Are these painted at the actual one-sheet poster size?

So many of Drew's movie posters are better than the movie. This is the one that stick out in my mind as his best poster of the best movie.

I just recently watched the 2013 documentary "Drew, The Man Behind the Poster" and I just had to come back and comment here because I loved that scene where Frank Darabont is asking the interviewer who owns this painting and how he can get it. I guess it's a good think you live an ocean away. Haha!
