DescriptionWhen this nifty mini-series hit the racks in 1986, Pat Broderick was fully in my circle of trust. If Broderick drew it, I bought it, no questions asked. This series had the added bonus of Broderick inking himself. Here, the seven princes of darkness of the Ultra Realm gather to celebrate their plans finally coming to fruition. Myridian (prince of hatred,) rips his heart from his chest, engorged with evil, squeezes his black heart to spread evil across earth's humanity. The series was drawn on a larger than normal 13x20 board, with an image area of 12x17.75 inches. This is a hunka-hunk of artistic brilliance. In addition to ink, Broderick also employed markers in his finishes, which sometimes fade over time. This led to portions of many of his pages now having lighter line work when markers were used. I have a Green Lantern page by Broderick that has a couple of images faded to a very pale version of what was originally drawn. Fortunately, these two pages haven't suffered that fate and have deep black inks. Social/Sharing |

Definitely! Pat had some great runs on Micronauts and Captain Marvel. Gotta thank Jim Shooter for criticizing Broderick so much he left Marvel for better opportunities and respect.
from Broderick's Wiki page: As [Pat] said in a 2003 interview, "Jim Shooter had all but informed me that, in his opinion, my art sucked and that I would never get another raise there, regardless of how well my books were selling. So one quick phone call to DC and I was in." Broderick [immediately worked on] Justice League of America #200 ... Firestorm ... the early issues of Sun Runners published by Pacific Comics and Eclipse Comics.
Broderick surely deserves more love from the art collecting community.

Looking at these pages gives me the sense that Pat really poured his all into the work. The angles, the details, the expressions. Dude was on fire the entire series.
