Description

I don't collect Original Page Art often. I almost consider it its own thing, but I deeply appreciate page art and respect those that have the resources that do.

But when a character, or a moment, or the art - either apart or together in synergy - speaks to me, and the opportunity presents (almost all my page purchases are directly from the artist at a trade table, which I prefer), I make poignant exceptions.

This is one of them.

Mike Perkins is a master of his craft. But what he did here was capture a moment of being overwhelmed by grief colored by love and regret.

I hesitate to contextually or emotionally gatekeep, but I find that people either loved this page or didn't, but those that do more than likely had the unfortunate distinction of understanding the emotive complexity Perkins managed to capture here by experiencing it themselves.

The entire Lois Lane maxi by Rucka is a masterwork because of both men, but this narrative ship in a bottle moment during the Maxi and the Leviathan event helped me process and accept and examine loss in a way hard to articulate.

I am honored to have it and to have purchased it from his portfolio at C2E2 2020. It is also signed.

Perkins inks saturate and overwhelm the page much like how the emotions flood through the facial expressions in a time of difficulty.
