Description"Battle Album: Death from the Sky!" Writer and letterer unknown. Cover date September 1970.The Battle Album "library of information on machines of war" ran from 1968 to 1986 in DC's war titles. Although the author is often unknown, the artists probably wrote them. DC encouraged readers to collect them and thus boost sales. The series first appeared in Our Fighting Forces #115, cover date September-October 1968, as a Joe Kubert one-pager of a World War I locomotive, armored car, and soldiers pulling artillery. It next ran in Our Army at War #200, cover date December 1968, as a double page spread, a format that DC continued through its 64-issue run in the war comics. The last installment, or at least among the last, was "The Night of Fire Ships!" written and drawn by Rex Lindsey in Sgt. Rock #409, cover date April 1986. (GCD) Social/Sharing |

Devastating implement of war! The Battle Album gave us insight on the key weapons that gave each side an advantage. The scene of scorched earth across two pages should tell us how these bombs were more powerful than anything that has come before.

As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity
I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?
And each time I feel like this inside
There's one thing I wanna know:
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Oh
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding?
And as I walked on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony
'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Oh
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding?
So where are the strong?
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony
'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Oh
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Oh
What's so fun about peace, love and understanding?

Excellent DPS (or were these features classified as pin-ups I wonder, were they all double page sized?) by Glanzman showcasing the destructive power of bombs (something human beings should just uninvent already damnit).

Thanks, Kavi! I was also wondering that and concluded they're not pinups. I haven't seen any Battle Albums showcasing heroes such as Sgt. Rock, the Losers, or the Haunted Tank. The comic where a Battle Album DPS first appears also has a Sgt. Rock pin-up (Our Army at War #200). I should add the GCD list of the Battle Album series isn't comprehensive. I found one not in the GCD list. There might be more.
