Description

Comic book cover artwork hand-drawn by comic artist Ron Frenz for Michael Gornick's Creepshow 2. In the opening sequence, "Prologue," The Creep (Tom Savini) delivered Creepshow comic books with covers that referenced the film's other segments to a newsstand in Dexter, Maine.

In the 1980s, Frenz became popular for being the first artist to draw Peter Parker's black Spider-Man costume into his Spider-Man's main title "The Amazing Spider-Man" with issue #252, and for co-creating the characters Mayday Parker and the New Warriors with comic writer Tom DeFalco. Frenz received a Nemo Award for Excellence in the Cartoon Arts for his contributions to Marvel, DC, and Apex comics, among others.

This artwork depicting scene thumbnails and titles for the film's segments "Old Chief Wood'nhead," "The Raft," and "The Hitch-hiker" was inked on Bristol board by Frenz, then used to animate the "Prologue" sequence by Anivision, LTD. It is also hand-labelled "Creepshow issue #2 Cover" in graphite. The artwork appears to have been partially inked in marker, which exhibits some discoloration and would fade over time if exposed to sunlight. The board additionally exhibits yellowing and staining to its corners and ink smudging on the reverse from production. Dimensions: 29.25 cm x 42 cm (11.5" x 16.5")
