DescriptionAfter inviting Francis to the festival I co-organised in 2011, a store signing in 2014 and in the street of Angouleme (in 2015?2016?), it had been some time since we’d seen each other so I was delighted to meet him again during the 2025 Facts Fall festival locally.Especially since the man’s art had quite levelled up in the years between to the point of him being announced as a now exclusive Ghost Machine artist, the very hot and exclusive sub Image company managed by Geoff Johns (among others). We had arranged a pre-show commission, but I had to buy his available sketchbooks when I arrived at this table, noticing that each buy meant a free remark within the book. Man-Thing was one of the two characters I hesitated with for a commission subject. Since I didn’t go for him in the end, I thought he’d make a great remark choice and as can probably tell, I was not disappointed in this second choice 😉 Till next time, Francis, hopefully sooner than later. Nice rendition of the Man-Thing, which seems to benefit from the large, empty and impassive eyes.

Fantastic rendering of Man-Thing and an EXCELLENT choice, obviously! This character's design is so wonderful for many reasons (it's creepy, it's cool, it's compost...) but mostly beacause it's so open to interpretation by other artists - everyone can give it their own particular spin. Francis's spin is absolutely terrific and it must have been a -blast- to see him sketch this out in person; to see it take shape before your eyes (especially with the relationship you've built up with Francis over the years). Congrats, F M! Great piece!

Daang that's a pretty rad looking Man-Thing! I'd say this pushes the envelope of Doodle/Remark and is edging onto full fledged Convention Sketch territory if it wasn't inside of a book - nice piece!

This ain't no doodle! This is a pretty great sketch, especially given that it was done for free!

I like that he's placed off center to suggest that the boggy mass is still going off frame.
