DescriptionContinuing on the Giffen train. Choo Choo!Ooooh baby! I really can't believe I own this. The Keith Giffen/Al Gordon Batman pinup from Detective Comics #600. How sweet is that. Huge fan of Keith Giffen both his writing and his art. He is easily one of my favorite creators, Mount Rushmore status for sure. I do think of him as primarily a writer and he wrote a lot of great books. It was his art that drew me in. I first saw Keith's work on the Legion of Super-Heroes (5YL) the art was different, weird and bold. It had great use of blacks. He would change his style numerous times. I was a fan of all his various art styles, his ever evolving art was awesome to see. Ultimately it's the stuff he wrote and drew that were my favorite. Ambush bug was great, Legion of Super-heroes (5YL) was awesome, the Heckler is my all time favorite Giffen book. No book has ever made me laugh out loud like the Heckler. Literally I would be reading the book and start laughing because of what I had just read. It was so good. This piece is just dripping with Keith Giffen sweetness. Giffen draws Batman as just a massive wall of a figure with a scary grin. What criminal wouldn't be scared if he was confronted by that figure. A grim and gritty Batman from Keith Giffen no less. Detective Comics #600 Batman pinup by artists Keith Giffen and Al Gordon. On a 11X17 board. 1989 I wrote, rewrote, erased a lot of stuff. It's late , I'm tired. I need to get sleep. If anything I wrote doesn't make sense or needs fixing I do it tomorrow or the next. Social/Sharing |

Nostalgia on overdrive with this milestone issue that coincided with May 1989 being big for Batmania! The all stars came out for these pin ups! Giffen doing his signature style with Gordon is peak!

So siiiick! A very memorable pinup from the 600th issue anniversary. It gave us a glimpse of how scary Batman could actually be. A stunning piece and in the right collection for the Giffenman!

Memorable piece when Giffen was still heavily "influenced" by José Muñoz.
