Description

In Harlem Nights, Richard Pryor gives a measured late-career performance as "Sugar" Ray, showing a quieter side of his talent. His dynamic with Eddie Murphy (as Vernest "Quick" Brown) highlights the contrast between two generations of comedy. This concept artwork by Drew Struzan differs from the movie one-sheet poster in showing much more of Pryor and Murphy's bodies. It was later released as a commercially available poster.

I actually saw this in theaters as a kid where everyone was talking to the screen and laughing through the whole movie. That sense of community don't happen as much any more. Struzan captured these comedy legends at their height. This was like the last hurrah of the decade.
