Description

My very first piece of vintage art. This is one of the only splashy images of Zatanna that Morrow drew in the Adventure issues. This is also the first appearance of Jeffrey Sloan, her forgettable manager.

Morrow hand lettered the whole page but DC had contracted with a letterer so they had word balloons created and pasted over Gray's work. One balloon has fallen off and you can see the original word balloon underneath.

Great page, especially the fishnet-clad Zatanna by Grey Morrow who is probably best known for his ability to draw sexy gals!

A beautiful page from a time when comics were simpler and yet more compelling. Thanks also for the explanation about the word balloons, I think I prefer Morrow's lettering to that of the contract letterer. Congrats on a great acquisition!

Best forgotten sidekicks aside, Morrow really was a perfect choice for Zatanna, and the page itself could probably serve as mini-course in the art of inking (I love how he gives the splash a layered feeling of depth).
