Description

This is page 14 of the story, Flash Gordon and the Wing Men. I am assuming that it was only published in Europe (I have never seen the whole story)... or it may be unpublished... but all of the balloons are in English. On this page, Dale and Zarkov have been captured by the Wing Men and are being held hostage in a castle built on the very top of a steep mountain and agree to go with the Wing Men to raid Ming's troops. It appears that Flash is assumed dead from Dale's thoughts in the last panel.

As you can see from the scan, this is a 5-panel page with nice shots of the winged pterodactyl men, the castle and Dale and Zarkov. In the top panel the leader refers to himself as "Ming Men". Above the panel is a note to change this to "Wing Men". My guess is that this is a studio job and I am not certain how much Giolitti actually did on the page. Regardless, this is very typical of work from Studio Giolitti during the the 1980's.

The original is rendered with pen, brush and ink and has a twice-up image area of 12.25 x 17.75" on a larger piece of 13.75 x 19" 2-ply Bristol paper. It is in great shape with just a little white out to correct lettering and balloons.

Beautiful page, never I saw it. I met several times A.Giolitti but never I heard he was drawing Flash Gordon. I will investigate.
