DescriptionI managed to pick up an Ash sketch of Evil Dead fame from artist Chris Samnee. This put an idea in my head to get some artists to do various pieces based on my favorite movies and I would frame them for down in my game room.I then started bugging Chris Samnee to do a Kurt Russell piece from John Carpenters The Thing movie. He politely told me the movie sketches he does on his blog are of films he has seen and is into at the time and that he has never seen that movie. I told him I understood and he should check it out if he gets a chance. A few days later I re-watched the film and picked up my sketch book and did my own MacReady drawing and posted it on CAF. Sorta proud of it I sent a link to Chris and then thought to myself why the hell did you do that? Chris emailed me back and kindly said it was pretty good and I should keep it up. Shortly after New years I sent him an e-mail with a pic of the frame job I did on a Harry Potter piece that I gave as a Christmas gift to a co-worker and to tell him how much she loved it. He emailed back to say glad she liked it and that he still had not seen The Thing but he decided to ink my pencil piece. He also said he hoped I was enjoying my 2009 so far.... I replied its off to a great start with a Jones/Samnee collaboration, OK more like a Samnee/Jones collaboration cause you really cleaned it up. I feel funny listing myself as penciler but according to Chris those are my pencils and that's the story I'm rolling with. I highly recommend you check out his blog Click Here For Chris's Blog Oh and one last thing Chris if you read this THANKS and brother you can ink me anytime! :) Social/Sharing |

What a fantastic story and surreal experience. We should all be so lucky to have a master of the inkwell polish up our stuff. You and Chris make a good team, Brian; hopefully, this won't be your last collaboration.
