Although Kane has a larger body of work on more mainstream characters, and is perhaps is best known for his work on a certain issue of a certain arachnid-related title, in my opinion, Gil Kane's work on Captain Marvel is amongst his very best. The lines are crisp, the pages are beautifully laid out and the inking is smooth, beautiful and faithful, but not slavish. This cover, which I had thought about long and hard, is a fine example of Kane's work on that title. Congratulations, on another terrific bronze age (i.e.: the "Make Mine Marvel Age") cover for your collection!

Joe Sinnott's inking irked some people. John Buscema felt it 'smoothed' out the roughness of his figures, which he felt was integral to how he depicted the human form in motion. But on some, Kirby notably, and as is obvious in this cover, with Kane, his inks were an enhancement. Like Dan Adkins who also worked magic with Gil's work, Joe's inking clarified and gave solidity to Gil's figures. This is a terrific cover, chiefly because it employs so much of what made Gil a great cover art - the figures that seem constantly in motion, the layout that captures the eye, and the sheer quality of work from a man whose career stretched from comic's early days, up to, if only in memory, the present.

Amazing cover--love that it's so dense. Despite the fact that it's a pretty static scene in terms of story, there's so much to look at on the page. Congrats!
