Description

I now have two grails in my house, the published page reflecting the Green Arrow cover image of Justice League of America 4 and now a silver age Kirby featuring Cap.

I have to say I always have favored Giacoa and Sinnott on Kirby and in that order on Cap, reverse order on Fantastic Four. But when I held this page in my hands I so got what others saw in Syd Shores, like Gene Colan and Stan Lee. The inks on this page are incredible, as is Jack�s dynamic storytelling.

I know there has been some discussion over the years that Shores started to make Kirby�s work look less like Kirby because Shores was supposed to take over the book. If that is the case, not here, this is just a superb compliment of two talents from the 40s, reuniting in the 60s.

What can I say here, my friend. How does one top such an incredible page of historic art, such as this. Kirby and Shores were a memorable team indeed. The perfect page to share on this 4th Of July celebration. "FANTASTIC"!!

Love this page. Shores brought such a nice golden age feel to those Cap issues.

As a person who once thought long and hard about acquiring this page (but just could not give up what it would have taken to do so), I salute you and your second, newfound grail. As for Syd Shores, I think his inking gave Kirby's art something of a Golden Age feel which I find quite interesting, especially now.

I remember buying those Kirby/Shores Cap stories from the end run of TOS and early solo books. At the time I really loved Syd inking Jack - and to this day I still regard that partnership as being really, really special. Excellent example you got there, congrats!
